About Old Dominion Brewing Co.
Old Dominion Brewing Company (ODBC), the Washington, DC, area's first microbrewery, was established in 1989 with a single clear vision - to make fresh, full-bodied beers of the highest quality. More than 15 years (and hundreds of thousands of barrels of beer) later, their objective remains passionately intact.
ODBC is a small, privately-owned company located in Loudoun County, VA, just a few miles from Dulles International Airport. We currently produce 31 beers and three soft drinks. Nearly all of our beers are distributed throughout Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. A limited number of our beers are available in parts of West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. The Tuppers' beers are sold in Georgia, North Carolina, and New Jersey. In 1998, Gourmet Food and Wine Magazine named Old Dominion one of the 20 best breweries in the country. In 2002, SmartMoney Magazine selected us one the five best breweries in the U.S.
Since our inception, Old Dominion has won 13 medals at the Great American Beer Festival. Most recently, Dominion Octoberfest was awarded a bronze medal in 2006 in the German Maerzen category.
In 2004, Old Dominion produced 26,827 barrels of beer. At this level of production, we are about the 44th largest brewery in the country. We brew all of our beers using no preservatives or adjuncts, and our beer is never pasteurized. For this reason, we date-stamp each bottle we produce. The fresher the beer, the better the beer.
We brew a full range of hand-crafted Lagers, Ales, and Stouts. These include many traditional seasonal specialties like our Octoberfest Lager; Millennium, a rich, winter-weight, barleywine ale; and refreshing Wheat Beer for summer drinking. We also brew a number of special beers for our partners; restaurants, pubs, and retail accounts. Our beers are made from four basic ingredients: barley malt, hops, yeast and water. We use wheat and roasted barley in our stout and add honey to our Millennium. We never use adjuncts or preservatives. We make all our beer and root beer under the supervision of the Metropolitan Rabbinical Kashrut Association. Our beers and root beers are strictly kosher and may be consumed by observers of Kashrut.
We offer public tours of the brewery on Saturdays at 2 and 4 p.m. (Except on holidays. Please call if you are in doubt). The Old Dominion Brewpub, located on the brewery premises, is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. We serve excellent pub-style fare, and all of our beers are available on tap. We also sell a wide variety of off-premise beer in 6 packs, cases, kegs and growlers.
